While sealing your home may not completely keep scorpions out, it can be a good way to make it less likely that they will come inside. Scorpions and many other pests can get into homes through small holes or cracks in walls, doors, windows, or foundations. The chances of scorpions getting into your home are greatly reduced if you seal these entry spots.
To help keep scorpions out of your home, here are some specific things you can do:
Seal up cracks and holes: Look for cracks and holes on the outside of your house in the foundations, walls, windows, doors, and utility penetrations. To keep these places from getting in, use caulk, weatherstripping, or other suitable seals.
Install door sweeps: Make sure that outdoor doors have door sweeps that fit tightly in place so that scorpions can’t get under them.
Screen openings and vents: Put fine mesh screens over windows, and other spaces to keep scorpions out while still passing air.
Maintain a distance between plants and your home. Cut back bushes, trees, and shrubs that could be used by scorpions to get to your home.
Get rid of trash: Keep outdoor areas clean and free of trash like rocks, woodpiles, and other junk that can be used by scorpions as hiding places.
Use barrier treatments: Put insecticide barriers around the outside of your house, paying special attention to places like the base where scorpions could get in.
Even though sealing your home and taking these other precautions can help make it less likely that scorpions will come into your living space, you should still be careful and take extra steps, especially if scorpions are popular in your area. Check your home often for signs of scorpions and take care of any problems right away to help keep the area scorpion-free.
